Nashville 1996 saw Skyinbow’s first exhibition in the US. In association with Picato strings, we had an amazing response. One of our products was the first production model of the Skyinbow Pro “Active” e-violin, with an adapted Fishman power jack as preamp, replacing the Pro model’s passive system.

On return from Nashville I designed and built the first Skyinbow S1. Patents were filed and the S1 was launched at Messe Frankfurt in 1997. That year saw the start of planning a purpose built workshop at Negarth in Vidlin. Skyinbow was employing 3 full time employees plus my wife, Norma, and myself. We also won a John Logie Baird award for innovation for the Skyinbow S1 and in the following year, a Smart Award (for design and innovation).

In the next few years our work concentrated on producing and shipping quality e-violins around the world from the Vidlin workshop. Development design work was also undertaken resulting in the Skyinbow SX, however only around 25 instruments were ever produced.
